NYC Mayor’s Cup Chess Championship atPS 11M

The NYC Mayor’s Cup Chess Championships is the only chess tournament in New York City that narrows down the competition to name the “Best in the City.” The tournament, which is open to all NYC students in grades K-12 who are rated 900 or higher for Elementary students, 1250 for Junior High students, and 1400 for High School students by the US Chess Federation is organized in partnership with Chess in the Schools.

High School Championship (Min. rating=1400)
JHS Championship (Min. rating=1250)
EL Championship (Min. rating=900)
Time Control:
All sections G/45 or G/40;d5.
Schedule:
Check-in: 8:15 AM - 9:15 AM
Round 1: 9:45 AM
Round 2: 11:30 AM
Round 3: 1:30 PM
Round 4: 3:15 PM
Awards will start at 4:50 PM
*NOTE - This event runs longer than normal CIS events due to the longer time control with 4 rounds!
*If a player plans to leave the event early, the player, their coach, or parent should alert the computer TD and withdraw the student from the event. All withdraw requests should be made as soon as possible, as pairings are made
Notes:
Sets, boards, and scoresheets provided. Bring a clock if you have one, and a pen or pencil for notation. CIS will allow for players to use chess-clock apps on their smart phones as long as the phone is in airplane mode. Please note that pictures will be taken during the event.
